Low-Cost, General-Purpose 8-bit PIC® Microcontrollers ideal for consumer, appliance and automotive applications

Microchip’s low-cost family of 28- and 40-pin 8-bit Flash PIC® microcontrollers (MCUs) PIC16F722/3/4/6/7  feature a 16 MHz internal oscillator; up to 14 Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) channels; communication peripherals (SPI, I2C™, AUSART); two Capture, Compare and PWM (CCP) modules; and the mTouch™ Sensing Solution peripheral.

The 28- and 40-pin PIC16F722/3/4/6/7 MCUs are capable of operation down to 1.8V and have an operating voltage range of 1.8 – 5.5V, with the low-power PIC16LF72X devices offering even lower standby and other power-consumption specifications from 1.8 – 3.6V, making the devices ideal for a host of low-cost consumer, appliance and automotive applications.

With up to 14 ADC channels, two CCP modules and communication peripherals, the MCUs increase design flexibility with the ability to interface with external devices such as environmental sensors, as well as providing additional system control and monitoring.

All PIC16F722/3/4/6/7 devices feature a Timer1 Gate that runs from the internal 16 MHz oscillator, facilitating easy conditional event counting and measurement implementations. In addition, designers can easily add proximity sensing or capacitive touch-sensing user interfaces in place of mechanical buttons or switches thanks to the innovative mTouch Sensing Solution peripheral, which also has the ability to operate while the device is in “sleep mode,” delivering further power savings.

The new MCUs have integrated in-circuit debug and are supported by the Microchip’s MPLAB® Integrated Development Environment (available for free download at www.ismosys.com) and the MPLAB® REAL ICE™, ICD2 or ICD3 and PICkit™ 2 or PICkit 3 debuggers.

The PIC16F722/3/6 and PIC16LF722/3/6 MCUs are available in 28-pin SPDIP, SOIC, SSOP and QFN packages; the PIC16F724/7 and PIC16LF724/7 MCUs are available in 40-pin PDIP, TQFP and QFN packages.
